Italy - Naples to Amalfi Coast

Path of Gods Trail

Naples, Sorrento, and the Amalfi Coast are some of the most beautiful and culturally
rich destinations in Italy. With stunning natural scenery, world-class cuisine,
and a wealth of history and culture, this region is a must-visit for any traveller
to Italy. Here is a travel guide to help you plan your trip from Naples to
Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.

Transport:

When flying in, we got a train into the city centre, one thing to note is you have to
validate your train ticket! If not you’ll risk being fined. There are little
yellow machines you put your ticket it which will stamp the date and time on,
then you’re free to get on the train.

The best way to travel to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast is by taking a train or bus from
Naples. The journey is about an hour and a half by train or bus. The train and
bus services are frequent and reliable. Taxis are also available, but I heard
they are very expensive so we didn’t bother even considering them!

Going from Sorrento to the Amalfi Coast, if you want the best views then sit on the left side but if driving on the edge of a mountain makes your stomach drop (like mine!) then
maybe sit on the right. You’ll have as good of a view without being able to
look down! The buses were a bit confusing for us, it was a guessing game which
ones were going to Amalfi but the bus drivers will confirm if you ask them.

Be sure on the trains to keep an eye on your bags and pockets as these trains get very busy so is a prime spot for pick pocketing.

Itinerary:

Naples:

1.      Explore the city centre and coastal views

2.      Buy a ticket to go up Castel Sant’Elmo for the best panoramic view of Naples

3.      Visit Mount Vesuvius

4.      Visit the Pompeii Ruins

Sorrento:

Sorrento is a beautiful coastal town situated on a cliff overlooking the Bay of Naples. It
is known for its stunning views, picturesque streets, and delicious cuisine.
Here are some of the top things to do in Sorrento:

1. Visit Piazza Tasso: This is the heart of Sorrento and the perfect place to start your
visit. The square is surrounded by cafes, shops, and restaurants and is a great
place to people watch.

2. Walk along the seafront: Sorrento's seafront is one of the town's most beautiful
features. Take a stroll along the promenade and enjoy the stunning views of the
Bay of Naples.

3. Walk to Bagni Regina Giovanna, a stunning view point and secluded coastal area. We went early to avoid seeing others which worked out perfectly. We sat by the sea afterwards and saw tuna jumping out of the water.

Amalfi Coast:

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful coastal areas in the world. It is famous for
its colourful towns, turquoise waters, and rugged cliffs. Here are some of the
top things to do on the Amalfi Coast:

1. Visit Positano: Positano is one of the most beautiful towns on the Amalfi Coast. Its colourful buildings are perched on the side of a cliff overlooking the sea.

2. Take a boat tour: The best way to see the Amalfi Coast is from the water. Take a boat tour and see the stunning coastline from a different perspective. You can also
visit the island of Capri on a day trip from the coast if you go in season.

3. Hike the Path of the Gods: The Path of the Gods is a beautiful walking route that offers stunning views of the Amalfi Coast. There are different routes to choose from,
ranging from easy to challenging. Make sure to bring water and food with you!

4. Take the stairs down to Positano: If you're feeling adventurous, you can take the stairs down to Positano from the hilltop town of Montepertuso. The stairs are steep,
but the views are worth it.

5. Do a lemon tour!

Visiting in April:

Visiting the Amalfi Coast in April is a great idea, as it is off-season and not as crowded
as the summer months. The weather starts to warm up in April, making it a
pleasant time to explore the region. Be sure to pack some warm clothes, as it
can still be chilly in the evenings.
